Designing for Easy Cleaning: Surface Finishes and Ejection Optimization for Toilet Seat Gasket Molds

By Dyanne April 3rd, 2026 14 views

Maintaining hygiene in mold production is crucial, especially for products used in personal care. The mold itself plays a significant role in ease of cleaning and part release. This article explores the design principles that facilitate this for toilet seat gaskets.

Toilet seat gaskets, while not medical devices, still require a high standard of cleanliness in their production environment. The mold used to create them must not only produce a quality part but also be easy to clean and maintain to prevent contamination and ensure consistent quality over time

Surface finish on the cavity side is paramount. A highly polished surface (achieving a surface roughness Ra of less than 0.1 µm) minimizes the adhesion of residual LSR and potential contaminants. This makes routine cleaning faster and more effective, reducing downtime. TYM mold designers specify these finishes and use advanced polishing techniques to achieve them consistently.

Ejection design is equally important for easy cleaning. Poor ejection can cause parts to stick or deform, leaving behind residue that is difficult to remove. We employ optimized ejector pin placement and polished pin tips to ensure clean, undamaged part release. For complex geometries, we might use blade ejection or air blow-off systems. Additionally, strategic venting placement not only aids filling but also prevents the accumulation of carbonized material in hard-to-reach areas. These thoughtful design elements collectively ensure that the mold itself contributes to a cleaner, more efficient production process.
